March 2009 Workshop
November 2008 Workshop
Kathmandu Art Club

2 day intensive
The first task was learning how to make simple gesture drawing with thick wax crayons by concentrating on blocking in the main masses, the main changes of direction and a few important details. Everybody practised in the studio from photographs first….

…. and then we went into Patan Durbar Square to sketch from life. Random local people were asked to model for five minutes at a time giving our workshop participants the opportunity to practise the quick gesture drawings they had learned to do in the studio. They also appreciated the live setting and the variety of models!
We had a quick run through of the results in the peace and quiet of the beautiful Museum cafe and everybody was very pleased with what they had managed to achieve.

The task was to learn about how to make different effects with paint and brush. Everybody explored making different marks, in black and white, that could be used for potential backgrounds in their final piece. They also practised making gesture paintings of people and explored how to integrate a figure into a background.
