My local Art Club members joined our group once more and we had three new models to draw. This time the emphasis was on portraits and proportions.

Many quick sketches were done to train the hand to link directly to what the eye sees. I gave a demonstration to show how to look for the essential structural features and their directions. We then did a longer 20 minute pose.

We had a staggered activity this afternoon in the studio, as some needed to finish their Thanka paintings first. The exercise was an exploration of one colour and the use of its complement as a contrast. Everybody completed the activity in the end, some working late into the night in the studio.

We had a lot of fun in the studio!

We all took an early morning excursion to one of the most sacred Hindu sights in Asia, Pashupatinath, with cremation platforms lining the bank of the Bagmati river. We settled high up in the sunshine where we could watch all the goings on and glance over the tops of the buildings. Some lovely sketches were made, a way to slowly drink in the atmosphere of this unforgettable place.

Everybody chose a subject for their final painting and we spent some time looking through the many photos to find the images they liked. We then discussed the best ways to achieve the results they wanted and everybody got along with their pieces.

It was a free morning for everybody to do their last bit of sight-seeing, or shopping, or working in the studio. The end to a wonderful workshop came on all too rapidly. We spent the afternoon reviewing all the work produced by each person - some superb pieces and so nice to see how everybody had developed throughout the workshop and found confidence in their different styles.

After an early evening visit to my private studio, where everybody had a chance to look at my paintings, we had a very lively farewell evening to relax, enjoy and reminisce about all the activities, excursions and fun we had had.

Everybody was so glad they had come!
